Only Color

Thought I would do one of Daily Paint Works challenges today as part of the 30 paintings in 30 days.
This was really suppose to be painted in black and white but, when I do watercolors I do not use black.  I have always mixed my own black, do not even own a tube of black watercolor paint.
The only time I use black with watercolor is if it is mixed media, ink and watercolor because the ink is black.  But the mixes I came up with still worked pretty well ......

Capturing a Moment

Sometimes the perfect picture just suddenly appears.  Or in this case it was the "purrfect" picture.
It has been really cold here in Michigan, below zero last night.   So we had a nice fire going in our wood burning stove, the cats playing in the living room, just a nice evening.  Well my old cat, Hanna wore herself out and stretched out by the stove.  Lucky foe me, I had my Arches watercolor pad and pen handy.  And Hanna stayed still long enough for me to get an ink drawing done.....

This morning I finished the work with a watercolor wash and posted the original on Etsy for sale, and on Zazzle for prints.
Here is the finished work.........

Three of a Kind

When I am at a loss for what to paint, all I have to do is look around.  I have several (once stray) house cats, and at least one is always watching me.  So as these guys watched me I painted them:)
One more for the 30 paintings in 30 days challenge.

Another View

Getting into the swing of the 30 paintings in 30 days challenge.  Today I did another view of my current favorite vase.  Love the primary colors on the vase and that any way you turn it the design is different.
Half way through the challenge, and happier with the paintings the last few days.  Not all my daily paintings are getting posted, only the ones I like the best.  Guess I have a more causal
approach this time compared to the last two challenges.

A little Vintage

I have to share a secret;  I love shopping second hand shops.  Today's painting is of a great little vintage find.  There is a shop in Durand Michigan called ReThinkinit a friend and artist owns, that I am just addicted to.  Going into a shop that has art, handmade stuff, recycled art, and vintage items, there is no way to leave with out a little something.  The vase in this painting is one of those finds.

Two Color Theme

Today decided to follow up with another painting using the 2 complements blue and orange.
Orange Roses,  Oil on canvas, 16 x 12 inches

AVAILABLE AT DPWS
For me picking the colors I want to work with, and keeping the colors to a limited number, makes painting more enjoyable.  Used C.A.S. oils, ocean blue, ultramarine blue, Cad.yellow,  Cad. orange, and white and a  touch of permanent green   Love how opposite colors look so bright next to each other, and also when mixed make the most beautiful grey.  Adding this to the 30 paintings in 30 days challenge.

Starting to to get in the flow of the 30 paintings in 30 days challenge again.  Today I just piled up a bunch of Chrysanthemums and started painting.  My goal was to just create the impression and feel of these flowers.

Experiment in Paints

Acrylic, 16 x 20 inches matted, "Simply Winter"
                                                                                     Available at DPWs
This was fun and interesting to do, the paint I used were mainly Duochrome paints by Daniel Smith
The luminescent duochrome paint is reflective and the colors change slightly depending on how the light hits it.  So as I was painting, I would turn the canvas and to makes sure the painting had a finished look at every angle.  This was a great way to really learn how to work with these paints.  These paints are usually used to create interesting backgrounds or highlights, so painting this using; Duochrome Adobe, Duochrome Catus Flower, Duochrome Aquamarine, white and black paints only was a challenge.  Perfect painting to do as part of the 30 paintings in 30 days challenge.

Paint what you see

The way the New Year starts in Michigan is cold, with either ice or snow.  This year it is snow, so that was the subject I decided to paint today.
When in question of what to paint, simply paint what you see:)
