Still working on completing my one hundred figure paintings, and just started the January 30 paintings in 30 days challenge.  This is day 4.

Also thought I would collage a photo together of the last bunch of figure paintings.

So I can safely say, I am staying busy this month :)

Daily Art

Frumpy Cat

I am what you call a Daily Painter, (my main website is on Dailypaintworks.com ).  An often people assume I do a finished painting every day...nope.  What daily painting means to me is, working towards a painting everyday.  Often I do cartoons, a great way of getting a feel for the character of a subject.  Sometimes I do black and white sketches, with ink or charcoal, to understand light and shadows, mass, and line.

In need of color

"Flamingo Rose"  Acrylic on watercolor paper, 16 x 12 inches

                                                                                      

 Cold and snowy outside today, and needed something to get me going.  Decided hot pink was the answer.  Used some airbrush acrylics to do this one.  Do not like air brushing, tried it for a while and had paint left from those days.  The airbrush is a fluid acrylic very fine grain pigments interesting to use with large watercolor brushes.

   Hope you like this one.

Day 2 of 30 Paintings in 30 Days

"Daisy and Rose"  14 x 11 inches Acrylic

                                                                                          

Day 2, worked with a acrylic paint to make a loose mass of flowers and vase.  Then after letting the acrylic paint dry finished with a liner brush and acrylic inks.  Two done and only 28 more to go.  Should be a fun month:)

All about layers

Finished today for day 28 of the 30 paintings in 30 days challenge.  

I started this yesterday and count that layer of the painting day 27, because it could have been a finished work at that point, but decided to do more. 

    

   I plan to do a small video of the process and the thought process soon and add to my YouTube channel.

   Day 26 is another painting that came together with layering...

The painting need more, wasn't sure what for a while.  Finally I decided to let intuition take over.

Now it feels complete.

Always something to paint

When you need something to paint just look around.  There is a saying "paint what you know".

Driving around in Michigan this is a common view from just about any road or highway.  The lone barn and Summer green fields.  Painted the barn painting from memory, something I know.

Some of the first wild-flowers to bloom are daisies, I have worked up many painting from the flowers.  Daisies grow like weeds (maybe they are weeds, pretty ones) all around my yard.  They are always a subject available to paint.

Another flower that grows, again like weeds are the daylily.  Most of mine are yellow, plain boring yellow flowers, but a few that come up look like red stars.  The back side of the flower is yellow, the heart of the flower is yellow and orange with deep red at the edges of of the petals.  These are always a challenge to paint, and each year I take up the challenge.

So to make a long story short, there is always something to paint.

Artwork, a multiple approach

I started this the other day and was having some trouble with the face.  To loosen up and get a better
feel for the subject, I took some paint; transparent red oxide and blue, and tried painting it on a gessoed paper, with a palette knife, (well some finger painting too :)

After I did this one I had a better feel for the look I wanted, but also liked this rough version.  So I photographed it, down loaded the photo and started manipulating it.  And really liked the digital version enough to add it to my FineartAmerica web site.

Digital Artwork

All of my digital artwork is based on an original painting or drawing.  An is an example of how one idea can be worked multiple ways to get an unique work of art.
